What is a Standard?

A standard is defined by the National Standards Policy Advisory Committee as:

"A prescribed set of rules, conditions, or requirements concerning definitions of terms; classification of components; specification of materials, performance, or operations; delineation of procedures; or measurement of quantity and quality in describing materials, products, systems, services, or practices."

Many thousands of standards are regularly issued by a multitude of standards issuing bodies. The following codes are held by Lovejoy Library, a few of which are acquired on a regular basis:

International Building Code (Ref. K3538.A15 I58)

The ASHRAE Handbook (Latest in Reference--TH7201 .A82, TH7015 .A76,TH7015 A74, TP490 .A75)

ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (TJ 290 .A514, 2010 ed., with 2011 addenda)

AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications (TG 310 .A43 2012, and earlier editiions)

IEEE Standards (over 2,400), including all active, historical and withdrawn standards--full-text available in IEEE Xplore.
