Locating Reference Sources in the SIUE Catalog

The best way to begin a research inquiry or assignment is with a reference source. Reference sources include dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, and almanacs. These sources include prime information to locate facts, background information on a topic or statistics.

Selected reference E-Resources@Lovejoy are listed to the left. Many other reference sources are accessible 24/7 in electronic format. To access reference sources in electronic format click here.

The Library's has also has an extensive print reference collection which normally does not circulate outside of the Library. This collection is located on the first floor.

Print reference sources are given the symbol designation "REF" before the call number.

Follow these steps to locate reference sources in the SIUE UFind Catalog:

  • Go to the UFind Catalog
  • Add a relevant "Keyword" search term (EXAMPLE:  Sports Science)
  • Click Find
  • Then "Narrow Your Search" on the right hand side and under Location click on Reference Collections

Note:  Below the book call number you will see the book's location.
