Where do I start?

A Quick Guide to Finding & Requesting Films

If you need to find a film for your course, follow these simple steps to determine the best way to access it.

Step 1: Check Library Streaming Services

Search for the film in our Library Catalog, or browse Kanopy, Swank Digital Campus, and Alexander Street. If the film is available, you're all set and can start streaming immediately.

Step 2: Request a Film Not Available in the Library

If the film is not available, you can submit a film request for streaming access. You can request through the platform on Kanopy, through the Swank instructor portal, or email us directly at eresource@siue.edu!

Step 3: Understand Copyright & Public Performance Rights (PPR)

Before showing a film, be aware of Fair Use, Face-to-Face Exemption, and Online Use & Public Screenings. Different rules apply to in-person and online screenings, and some exceptions or exemptions may allow you to use a film in your course.

Check the guidelines here to determine if you can legally screen a video in your class.
