Establish an Author Identity

You can easily distinguish your research from that of others and showcase your scholarly contributions by creating a researcher profile and maintaining an author identity. Taking the few minutes to do so will also benefit granting agencies and possible collaborators who can more readily locate your research.

ORCID
ORCID, or Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a non-profit, community driven effort that provides authors' persistent digital identifiers (similar to a doi for an article). You can maintain your user profile and publication list in ORCID.
Scopus Author Identifier
If you publish in a journal indexed by Scopus, you are automatically given a Scopus Author ID. This feature includes a publication list and citation metrics but only for those items indexed in Scopus.

Mendeley
"Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social network that can help you organize your research, collaborate with others online, and discover the latest research." You can create a researcher profile, track views and downloads as an alternative impact measure, and find similar papers to the ones you're reading. Note: Elsevier purchased Mendeley in 2013.
