Doctoral Nursing Program Guide: Finding Articles

A brief overview of the Lovejoy Library's resources and services for DNP students.

Basics

Current research in the health sciences is discussed in journals.  These journals contain individual articles which are then listed in databases to make them easier for you to search.

For example, Circulation is a journal, and its articles are listed in the database CINAHL, which collects materials in nursing and allied health.  CINAHL is listed as a nursing database on the library website.

There are different sets of databases for each discipline at SIUE.  You'll probably want to use nursing the most, but you may also want to consider databases relating to science, pharmacy, education, psychology, or others depending on your research interests.

Circulation is listed in CINAHL, a Nursing database, but it is also listed in PubMed, a medical database, and Scopus, a science database. It is important when you search (especially for evidence) that you check multiple databases of multiple subjects to collect all the relevant evidence.
