Transfer Students: Need Help?

This guide provide an overview of library information and resources to support the success of transfer students.

Research Help

Take advantage of the following resources to help with your research.

Resource Help

Here are some additional resources that will help in your research process.

Computers

Public workstations are available on all three floors of the Library to accommodate individual or group work.  Internet access, the Microsoft Office package and other software are available as well.

To login to any of the computers in the Library, type your e-ID username and password.  An e-ID is the part of your university e-mail address that precedes @siue.edu.  For example, in the e-mail address abc123@siue.edu, the e-ID would be abc123.

Information Technology Services (ITS)

Computer and internet access privileges are granted to current SIUE faculty, staff, and students.  To take advantage of these privileges, you will need your e-ID and password.  If you need to get an e-ID, change your password, or have forgotten your password, visit the e-ID Creation and Maintenance web page.

If you are still having trouble with your e-ID, password, email or Blackboard, please visit Information Technology Services in the Lower Level of the Library, Room 0005 or call them at 618.650-5500.  ITS is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am - 6:00pm.  They are not open weekends.

Printing and Copies

The cost for black and white printing and/or copies is .10/page.  The cost for color printing and/or copies is .50/page.

To pay for printing or copying, you can either debit your Cougar Card or pay with cash.  Your payment method, cash or card debit, will affect which copier or printer terminal you should use or retrieve documents.

To debit your Cougar Card, you card must be credited with an existing value.  If your Cougar Card does not have any credit, Lovejoy Library has a terminal for depositing cash to your student account. The terminal is located on the East side of the first floor next to the photcopiers and printers.

Equipment Checkout

Equipment may be checked out from the Circulation Desk.  Each item may be checked out for three days.  Due to high demand, renewals are not permitted.  Instruction manuals are available upon request.  A listing of equipment is provided here.

Student Group Study Room

This study room is available for use on a first come first serve basis to current SIUE students.  Situated on the third floor, Room 3012A, the room is available to accommodate 3-6 members of a group but not for individual use.  The group may use the room for three hours.  The group should designate an individual to acquire the key from the Circulation Desk.  Be aware this individual will need his SIUE Cougar Card and accepts responsible for the room as well as the return of the key to Circulation.  More details about policies for this room are located on the door.

Media

You will find on the first floor of the Lovejoy Library DVD cabinets with over 1,000 DVDs.  Located on the second floor, you will find over 4,000 VHS tapes.  Patrons wishing to check out medias must do so at the Circulation desk and provide their SIUE ID/Cougar Card.  Media items can be checked out for 7 days and, unless scheduled, renewed several times.

The Viewing Room

The Viewing Room is located on the first floor.  The area offers a comfortable setting for individuals or groups (6 or less) wishing to view DVD or VHS. Users are welcome to view media from the Library's collection, from course reserves, or from their own private collection.

Wireless Laptops

If you own a laptop and have a wireless network card installed, you have the privilege of accessing the University's wireless network.  Access is available throughout Lovejoy Library.  However, if you wish to print, our printers do not have wireless routers. You will need to save the document to a jump drive or email to yourself and print from our workstations.

The Library also circulates laptops to students, faculty, and staff.  There is a maximum checkout of three hours.

If you prefer connecting to our network via physical cable, jacks and cabling are installed throughout the Library.  Network cards are also available for three hour checkout.

Laptops and network cards are available at the Circulation Desk. You will need your Cougar ID and have no holds on your record.  You must complete a statement of responsibility the first time you checkout a laptop.
