On May 2-4, 2025, a Ruth Slenczynska Centennial Celebration Symposium and Concert were held at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The series of events were co-sponsored by Library and Information Services (LIS); the Graduate School; the College of Arts and Sciences; and the Departments of Music, Mass Communications, and Theater and Dance. The Music Alumni Network also provided a post-concert reception.
Two presentations were given by SIUE Fine Arts Librarian and Associate Professor Therese Dickman on Friday afternoon (5/2) and Saturday morning (5/3).
Ruth Slenczynska: Thriving as a Performer, Recording Artist, and Teacher during the Pandemic by Shelly Moorman-Stahlman, was the final symposium presentation given at SIUE (May 3, 2025). Shelly Moorman-Stahlman, Professor of Organ and Piano at Lebanon Valley College, provides insights into Ruth Slenczynska's life since 2020 in this engaging video.
A piano master class was offered by Dr. Angela Kim, head of the SIUE keyboard unit, with two of her students on Saturday afternoon (5/3/25).
The symposium ended with a culminating concert to honor former SIUE Artist-in-Residence, Ruth Slenczynska. Former SIUE Slenczynska students and some SIUE music faculty and a current student performed in this historic, captivating concert.
